ATHENS, Ohio (Jan. 17, 2006) -- Ohio University has named William R. Decatur the vice president for finance and administration, chief financial officer and treasurer, effective March 20, Ohio University President Roderick J. McDavis announced today. He will serve as a consultant for Ohio University between Jan. 17 and March 17.
Decatur is currently executive vice president for finance, technology and operations at the University of Toledo, a position he has held since 2004. Decatur has held several senior administrative positions since joining the University of Toledo in 1999, including senior vice president for finance, technology and operations; vice president for finance and administration; and interim president from June 2000 to July 2001.
"I am very pleased to have Bill join the senior leadership team at Ohio University. As the vice president for finance and administration, chief financial officer, and treasurer, he will undoubtedly draw on his rich background in university financial administration and his experience effectively managing people," McDavis said. "In order to successfully meet the challenges that face higher education in Ohio, Bill will provide the expertise necessary to move Ohio University forward as we work toward achieving the goals outlined in Vision OHIO."
As vice president, Decatur will supervise the areas of Campus Safety, the Division of Finance, Facilities and Auxiliaries, University Planning and Implementation, and University Services. The area of Finance and Administration has more than 1,000 employees and an annual budget of more than $100 million. Decatur also will serve as a liaison to the Administrative Senate and as treasurer of the Ohio University Foundation.
Decatur has a broad and progressive background in higher education. He was vice president for finance and administration at Georgia State University in Atlanta from 1993 to 1999, and also held administrative positions at the University of Toledo from 1989 to 1993 and at Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio, from 1987 to 1989. Decatur was a supervisory senior budget/management analyst with the Ohio Office of Budget and Management from 1985 to 1987.
Decatur earned a bachelor's degree in political science and sociology from Miami University of Ohio and master's degree in public administration and law degree from the Ohio State University.
"I am honored to be named to this position and very excited about the opportunities it presents," Decatur said. "President McDavis is providing strong leadership, and I look forward to working with the president, the other members of the university leadership team, my colleagues in finance and administration and others throughout the university as we support Ohio University's distinctive learning environment and continue to move the institution among the ranks of nationally prominent universities."
Decatur replaces Gary North, who resigned Aug. 31, 2004. Larry Corrigan, who has been serving as interim vice president for finance and administration, will return to his position as associate vice president for finance.
Decatur was chosen following a national search co-chaired by former Vice President for Student Affairs Michael Sostarich and Assistant to the President Alan Geiger.
"I would like to thank Larry Corrigan for the strong leadership and dedication he has provided the university during this transition period. I greatly appreciate the loyalty and professionalism he has displayed," McDavis said. "I also appreciate Mike Sostarich and Alan Geiger for their efforts in conducting a thorough search that attracted an outstanding pool of applicants. We had a tremendous field of talented candidates, and I appreciate their interest in this position."
Decatur is originally from Euclid, Ohio. He and his wife, Della, have three children.
Decatur agreed to a contract for $215,000 annually.
