ATHENS, Ohio (Feb. 27, 2006) -- The Ohio University School of Dance presents Winterdance Concert '06, March 2 and 3, at 8 p.m., and March 4, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., in the Elizabeth Baker Theater in Kantner Hall on Ohio University's Athens campus.
This year's concert features a diverse mix of seven modern dance pieces by four School of Dance faculty members and visiting artists Kraig Patterson, Cheryl Wallace and Seán Curran.
Curran, of Seán Curran Company, is completing a second guest residency in the school of dance. His dance, "I might be wrong," reflects the flurry of creativity in the composition of the piece and the challenge it presents for dancers. Created during five rehearsal periods, Curran describes the dance as a merging of club and modern dance.
"Seizere," a quartet choreographed by Kraig Patterson of Bopi's Black Sheep Dance Company, features music by contemporary composer Arvo Part.
Marina Walchli has reconstructed a solo originally choreographed by Cheryl Wallace entitled, "Streets aren't for Dreamin." Wallace, a school of dance graduate and a founder of Cheryl Wallace DanceWorks in New York City, passed away in January 2006.
Mickie Geller's dance celebrates the curvaceous female body. She drew inspiration from the works of painters and sculptors who glorified the female form, including Renoir, Rubens, Kent, Maillol, and Picasso.
The concert also showcases choreographed works by School of Dance Faculty, Zelma Badu-Younge, Travis Gatling, Mickie Geller, and Marina Walchli.
Tickets for the performance are on sale now for $10 for general admission and $8 for matinee. For tickets, please contact the Fine Arts Ticket office at (740) 593-4800 or stop by the lobby in Kantner Hall between noon and 5 p.m.
