Student Affairs realignment and reorganization

ATHENS, Ohio (April 3, 2006) -- The Office of Student Activities, the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Student Programs Center, and the Center for Community Service at Ohio University have been combined into a single new department named Campus Life effective April 3.

The program/event planning function of Student Activities has been merged with a similar function at Baker University Center. The assistant to the president for university diversity will now oversee the Office of Multicultural Programs and the Lindley Cultural Center. The associate provost for International Programs will now oversee International Student and Faculty Services.

"I'm confident that these changes will lead to improved opportunities for students while enhancing efficiency," said Rich Carpinelli, interim vice president for Student Affairs. "As we look forward to our move to the new University Center and to align our efforts with Vision OHIO, we'll continue to assess how we provide programs and services and how we can improve."

Anne Lombard, current director of Student Activities, has been named director of Campus Life, and Mickey Hart, coordinator of the LGBT Programs Center, has been named assistant director. Current Assistant Director of Student Activities Danita Brown has been promoted and named associate director of the new unit. Michael Sprinkle will continue as assistant director for Fraternity and Sorority Affairs.

The department's staff members will be responsible for student organizations; leadership development; community service and volunteer mobilization; programs to support lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students; Greek life, family weekends and oversight of major campus events.

Oversight for Multicultural Programs and the Lindley Cultural Center will reside with Christine Taylor, assistant to the president for university diversity, and oversight for International Student and Faculty Services will reside with Josep Rota, associate provost for International Programs. Staff in these units will continue in their current roles.
