ZANESVILLE, Ohio (April 11, 2005) -- During President Roderick McDavis' inaugural speech he emphasized the university's commitment to the region. McDavis mentioned that faculty, staff and students are encouraged to look for opportunities to build more economic development partnerships. One way Ohio University-Zanesville is keeping that commitment is through its Business and Industry Training Program.
The Zanesville Campus is expanding its business and industry program, which is designed to offer area businesses training and service that will keep their workforce current with today's challenges. Some of the courses offered include written communication skills for bank employees, communication skills for engineers, supervisory training for employees of manufacturing facilities and individualized software training.
"We help companies invest in their employees and realize business objectives," said Business and Industry Training Coordinator John Geiger. "As a member of the East Ohio Development Alliance and by working with the Chambers of Commerce, Ohio University-Zanesville has the resources to partner with businesses in an effort to meet our community's workforce development needs."
Geiger holds a Master's degree in Vocational and Technical Education, and a Bachelor's degree in Marketing Education from the Ohio State University. In addition to his formal education, Geiger's has over 25 years experience in workforce training and development.
"We have partnerships with several organizations," explained Geiger. "With the ability to customize training to meet the needs of our clients, from a performance improvement prospective, we are continually upgrading and adding to our resource capacity." Being a member of the EnterpriseOhio Network of Ohio colleges provides a statewide resource and support structure which allows Ohio University-Zanesville to provide cost effective solutions for business and industry in the region in addition to training, job analysis/profiling and assessment, and performance improvement consultation.
