ATHENS, Ohio (May 10, 2005) -- Ohio University's Office of Education Abroad (OEA) will be hosting "Around the World in Gordy Hall" on Wednesday, May 18, from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
The event will feature performances, food samples and demonstrations from cultures across the globe. The photos entered in the International Photo Contest, sponsored by the OEA earlier in the year, will also be on display. The evening will conclude with a flag contest and raffle, where participants will have the opportunity to win various prizes, including study abroad scholarships and $100 to cover the cost of a U.S. passport.
Countries represented will include Spain, Africa, Denmark, Russia, Korea, Germany, Ecuador, Italy, Indonesia, France, United Kingdom, Japan, Mexico, Portugal, Australia, China and others.
"Around the World in Gordy Hall is a great way to get a quick glimpse of the multitude of amazing international cultures and languages surrounding us every day at Ohio University," said Connie Perdreau, director of the OEA. "This is a fast, efficient, free way to develop your international competence, basic linguistic skills and cultural fluency to better prepare yourself for the global world of tomorrow."
Last year, 550 students and members of the community participated. The event, which is part of International Week, is free and open to the public.
