Ohio University office renamed Office of University Events

ATHENS, Ohio (March 18, 2005) -- The name of the office that manages many of the university's major events has been changed to the Office of University Events. It was formerly known as the Office of Public Occasions.

"The name change better reflects the nature and breadth of events and activities the office has become responsible for over the past several years," Vice President for Student Affairs Mike Sostarich said.

The office's staff members are responsible for facility management of Templeton Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium and Galbreath Chapel; the programming and administration of the Performing Arts Series, the Kennedy Lecture Series and the Frontiers in Science Lecture Series; the planning, coordination and management of the annual commencement ceremonies and the presidential convocation for first-year students. The staff has also become more involved with the production and facilitation of a wider range of university events and activities.

Gretchen Stephens is director of the Office of University Events, which continues to be housed on the second floor of the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium.
