ATHENS, Ohio (Oct. 27, 2004) -- Award-winning WOUB Producer Sandra Sleight-Brennan will have a feature about mountaintop removal as part of the NPR program "Justice Talking: The Future of the Environment." The special feature will air as part of "Justice Talking" on WOUB-AM 1340 on Sunday, Oct. 31, at 9 a.m.
"Justice Talking" engages listeners in debates on the current legal battles that capture our nation's attention. Each weekly program tackles tough, provocative issues by featuring reports from the field, polling analysis, and compelling debate between the nation's leading advocates and political opposites. With knowledge and insight, veteran NPR correspondent Margot Adler leads listeners through a fast-paced hour, peppered with questions from a live studio audience.
The "Future of the Environment" program debates the controversy over environmental policy during Bush's Presidency. Recently, environmentalists have condemned the Environmental Protection Agency's decision to halt certain clean air enforcement actions. They say it is another fateful step toward the complete dismantling of a generation of environmental progress which relied heavily on making polluters pay. The EPA counters that it is time for a new approach which better balances "the needs of the environment and the needs of humanity." With the support of the President, the agency has tried to work with industry in ways, they say, will foster a "new ethic" in environmental management.
