The Pi Rho/Tau chapter of Sigma Delta Pi was founded on May 17, 1986 by then-National President Dr. Richard Chandler from Louisiana State University. It became the 400th chapter of the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society. Since then we have inducted 372 students of Spanish into the society. Our current advisor, David Burton, served as Ohio's State Director from 1992-1995, although the concept of State Directors was later abandoned by the society. As a chapter we are dedicated to promoting Hispanic themes on campus, sharing our love of language with each other and strive to maintain high academic standards in our Spanish studies.
Why Join?
Sigma Delta Pi is the only honor society devoted exclusively to students of Spanish in four-year colleges and universities.
Sigma Delta Pi is the largest foreign-language society in existence and one of the best according to the Association of College Honor Societies.
Election to Sigma Delta Pi is a high honor for the serious Spanish student and presents an opportunity for friendship with students of similar interests and out-of-class interaction with faculty.
Through an ever-increasing scholarship program, Sigma Delta Pi annually gives awards for students to study in Spanish-speaking countries such as Ecuador, Spain, Mexico and Peru, among others.
