Obtain your Login Information

After you have submitted your request to use this service, you will receive a message from OIT notifying you that your account has been created and providing you with a configuration file for your selected FTP client. Your login information will be sent to you in a FileLocker message. To retrieve it, follow these steps:

  1. Login to FileLocker with your OHIO ID and password.
  2. Review and accept the terms of service.
  3. To retrieve the message, click the "Messages" link in the upper right corner of the page with an envelope icon next to it.
  4. The messages box will appear. Click on the message to read its contents.

FTP Instructions

When signing into your FTP client, use your OHIO ID and the password you retrieved from Filelocker. Do NOT use your normal OHIO password.

Cyberduck (Mac)

  • If you haven’t installed Cyberduck, you can download Cyberduck here. If you have Cyberduck, skip to step two.
  • Download the FTP configuration or SFTP configuration and save it onto your desktop.
  • Double-click on the download file.
  • Cyberduck will open the download file and log you into your FTP account.

CoreFTP (Windows)

  1. If you haven't installed, Core FTP, download Core FTP here. If you have Core FTP, skip this step
  2. Select either the FTP Configuration File or the SFTP Configuration File option and save it to your desktop. Whenever possible, we recommend using SFTP, as it is more secure.
  3. Double-click on the configuration file you just downloaded.
  4. Core FTP will automatically open and log you into your FTP account.

To import Core FTP configuration settings, click Sites⇀Site Manager. Next, right click the main window and click Import⇀Core FTP. Select the saved configuration file to import the data.

FileZilla (Windows and Mac)

When configuring FileZilla, you will download an XML file and import it to your FileZilla client. To configure the FileZilla FTP client:

  1. If you haven't installed FileZilla, download Filezilla here. If you have FileZilla, skip this step.
  2. Open your FileZilla FTP client.
  3. Select the Import option from the File menu (File ⇀ Import).
  4. Select the XML file you have just downloaded and click OK.
  5. Click the OK button on the resulting Import Settings window.
  6. Click OK on the resulting Import Successful window.
  7. To open a connection to your FTP server, select the Site Manager feature from the File menu (File ⇀ Site Manager).
  8. Select your domain from the Select Entry menu.
  9. Click the Connect button to connect to your FTP server.

Transferring Files

Once the previous steps have been completed, you can transfer files onto your new web space.

  1. All the files you need for your websites should be located on your computer.
  2. Use your configured file for your FTP client and connect to the server
    1. The XML configuration file will fill in all the other required information for you
    2. You will be asked for your password, use the password you received from OIT
  3. Follow the instructions for your FTP client and move files into your space
  4. If you get a warning that you are exceeding your disc space, contact the OIT service desk
  5. When you're finished, disconnect your FTP client and close the window
  6. Type your new URL into a browser and confirm the transfer worked
    1. URL will be http://people.ohio.edu/[your OHIO ID]
