Ways to use Top Hat in the classroom and beyond

On Tuesday, Nov. 13, Top Hat specialist Kara Dingboom will present a series of workshops on the Athens campus that show how to use Top Hat to increase student engagement. Topics will include:

  • Pedagogical benefits
  • Basic setup
  • Advanced question types
  • Authoring content
  • Finding free and low cost instructional materials
  • Using Top Hat at events, conferences, and other non-classroom locations

The sessions are free, but seating is limited. We recommend pre-registering.

Top Hat Basics: Getting Started with the Active Learning Platform

Time: Nov. 13, 9:00 am - 10:00 am

Target Audience: Faculty, TAs, instructional designers, and staff

In this comprehensive and interactive session, we'll primarily focus on the key functionality of Top Hat, as well as the pedagogical benefits of using the platform. Topics that will be covered include: creating an account, setting up a course(s), developing content, using the gradebook, Blackboard integration, and taking attendance. There will also be plenty of time for discussion and questions.

Top Hat Basics in the CUE

Top Hat Advanced: Beyond the Basics of Interactive Polling

Target Audience: Faculty, TAs, instructional designers, and staff

Looking to expand upon your basic use of Top Hat? Attend this workshop and learn many advanced capabilities of this student engagement platform. We will explore several ways to create and present Top Hat questions, such as repeating, segmenting, grouping and “gaming” with Tournaments. Additionally, we will discuss how to use interactive and media-rich content, with a focus on the Pages module for authoring and the MarketPlace for finding free and low-cost materials.
