VoIP telephone upgrade: pilot and site surveys under way

Thursday, April 17, 2014
Sean O'Malley

Preparations for the university's VoIP telephone upgrade are under way.

Currently, OIT staff are in the process of meeting with university departments to discuss their existing telephone inventories, visiting all university office spaces to confirm telephone locations for 911 purposes, and building out the pilot group.

VoIP upgrade phases

OIT will implement the new service in four phases:

  1. Internal testing by OIT's Infrastructure staff - under way
  2. OIT pilot - Scheduled to begin mid May
  3. University-wide pilot - Upon completion of the OIT pilot, the team will expand the pilot to include up to 5 telephones per university department.
  4. Full rollout - Upon successful completion of the university-wide pilot, OIT will begin upgrading all remaining office telephones.

Exact timelines will vary, depending on what issues surface during the various pilot phases. For questions, call 740-566-VOIP or send email to telephone@ohio.edu.
