Coming soon: Free access to Qualtrics survey tool

Friday, December 6, 2013
Sean O'Malley

Qualtrics.com logoFaculty, staff and students soon will have free access to a powerful tool for creating online surveys: Qualtrics Research Suite.

The university recently purchased a site license for the service. In the coming weeks, OIT staff will be working with a qualtrics.com technical team to ensure a smooth rollout. Once the rollout is complete, all faculty, staff and students will have free, fully-featured access to the service.

Individuals and departments who have paid subscriptions to Qualtrics will be included in the site license, with the service becoming centrally funded in 2015. OIT will work directly with current users to identify the best way for them to migrate to the new site license.

What is Qualtrics?

Qualtrics Research Suite is an easy to use, powerful tool for creating online surveys. It supports a wide range of approaches, from simple questionnaires and event signup lists to sophisticated social science research instruments with extensive scripting, randomization and interactive question presentation.

Why use Qualtrics?

If you can think of a question, Qualtrics can help you answer it. Academic use cases include:

  • collecting longitudinal data for sensory panels
  • surveying participants about their media usage patterns
  • quantifying outdoor adventure program participants' perceptions of risk and reward
  • political opinion surveys
  • market analysis
  • conjoint analyses
Qualtrics also can be used for event planning, RSVPs, and customer service feedback. Need a focus group to respond to a new video clip? Embed it in a survey and let your audience watch it at their convenience. Hosting a conference? Use Qualtrics to track your attendees housing, parking and dietary requests. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination.

If you currently are paying for a Survey Monkey subscription, this new site license will provide a more powerful tool at no cost.
