Canvas Training Materials

There are several training resources available to assist users in their transition to Canvas. OIT is working closely with campus partners to provide robust training plan and support for students, faculty, and staff for a successful move to Canvas.

24/7 Canvas Support

Support will be available to students, faculty, and staff within Canvas 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To review training and support options, go to Canvas and select "Help" from the left-side menu. Users can receive assistance via chat, phone, or email, according to their preferences. OIT is closely collaborating with Canvas to ensure that customers are directed to the appropriate resources for OHIO-specific questions. When in doubt, start with Canvas support, as they are available at all times and have information about the resources supported by OIT.

For Students

Canvas has been selected as the new learning management system to provide an accessible, intuitive, and modern learning space for OHIO students.

  • Getting started: OHIO-specific written help materials and a self-guided training are available on OIT's Canvas LMS Resources and Training page.
  • Canvas guide: Canvas provides comprehensive written instructions for students on virtually every feature in their Canvas Student Guide.

For Instructors and Organization Leaders

The launch of Canvas presents a great opportunity to focus on excellence in teaching and course design that will facilitate a student-centered learning environment.

  • Get the basics: OHIO-specific written help material, general Canvas help material, and a self-guided training are available on OIT’s Canvas LMS Resources and Training page.
  • Move content: Instructional technologists and Canvas experts are ready for Canvas OIT Consultations to discuss content migration, Canvas features compared to Blackboard features, and other general Canvas inquiries.
  • Set up a great course: The Office of Instructional Design offers Canvas transition support resources, including workshops, consultations, and open office hours. The Center for Teaching & Learning Advancement (CTLA) also provides support for teaching excellence through faculty development programs and resources. Visit the CTLA website for more details on workshops, teaching academies, faculty fellowships, and support for pedagogical research projects
  • Get more training: Access on-demand and live trainings led by Canvas within Canvas. These sessions can be found in the “Help” menu by selecting the “Training Services Portal”. Please note that this link will open in a new window outside of OHIO’s learning management system and will require authentication. Additionally, Canvas hosted live training in summer 2023, featuring three days of intensive sessions tailored to faculty and administrators. Recordings are available for each session, along with related help material on Recorded Canvas Training page.
