Blackboard Integration Updates
Blackboard, the University’s learning management system, has many third-party publishers and other vendors whose content and teaching tools integrate with Blackboard. The technology these tools rely on has become outdated, and the vendors will be updating to a more modern technology through December 2023.
The Office of Information Technology has scheduled these updates between semesters over a period of 18 months to minimize disruption and reduce the amount of content instructors need to rebuild at one time.
The following integrations were completed between December 14 and December 16, 2022. Add a search term to filter the table, or click on a heading to sort.

|Summer 2022||Top Hat||This update changed the process to pair Top Hat with both Blackboard Original and Blackboard Ultra courses. The new process requires initiating the sync process from within Blackboard rather than Top Hat, as demonstrated in the video How to Pair a Top Hat Course with a Blackboard course. The new process syncs Blackboard and Top Hat rosters, allows instructors to invite students to a Top Hat course, and sends grades from Top Hat directly to the Blackboard Grade Center.|
This update affected instructors using Turnitin in Blackboard Original courses, which required rebuilding all assignments or switching to Blackboard Assignment or Peer Assessment features. Instructors using Turnitin in Blackboard Ultra were not affected.
Turnitin was fully retired on July 31, 2022, and assignments created prior to the updates are no longer visible.
The VoiceThread update was completed with minimal impact and did not require instructors to rebuild content.
