  • Knowledge Workers: Any employee or contractor who uses an OHIO owned computer or device to perform their primary job duties

How to Request

Office for the Web

No request needed. Access is available as long as your OHIO login is valid.

Office 365 Downloadable Clients

Current students, faculty and knowledge workers

No request needed. Access is granted automatically based on your role at the university. Follow the instructions below to install Office 365.

Other employees

If you hold a position that is not considered to be a knowledge worker, but you do use an OHIO-owned computer or device to perform your primary job duties, your manager can contact the IT Service Desk to request an Office 365 subscription for you.  

Once the Service Desk has activated your subscription, follow the instructions below to install Office 365.

Your manager will need to renew your Office 365 subscription (at no charge) each year in June by submitting a new request.

How to Install

You must have an active Office 365 subscription (see above) before you can install Office 365.

University-owned, managed computers

Windows (SCCM)

  1. Make sure your computer is connected to the OHIO network (wired or eduroam wi-fi for on-campus, VPN for off-campus).
  2. Open your Start Menu.
  3. Choose All Programs | Microsoft System Center | Software Manager
  4. Choose MS Office 365 - User Licensed.
  5. Once Office finishes installing, open one of the Office applications like Word or Excel and follow the prompts.
  6. If you are asked to sign in, choose Sign in using my school or work account and use your full @ohio.edu email address and OHIO password.

Mac (Munki)

  1. Make sure your computer is connected to the OHIO network (wired or eduroam wi-fi for on-campus, VPN for off-campus).
  2. Under Applications, open Managed Software Center.
  3. Under Software, choose Microsoft_Office_2019. If this installer is not visible, you may need to contact your departmental IT technician to enable it.
  4. Once Office finishes installing, open one of the Office applications like Word or Excel and follow the prompts.
  5. If you are asked to sign in, choose Sign in using my school or work account and use your full @ohio.edu email address and OHIO password.

Personal devices and unmanaged university computers

Windows and Mac

  1. Log into https://catmail.ohio.edu.
  2. Choose the App Launcher (aka. waffle) in the upper left corner of your Catmail window and choose Office 365.
  3. Choose Install Office.
  4. Choose Office 365 Apps.
  5. Once the installer finishes downloading, open it, and follow the prompts.
  6. If prompted to sign in, choose the option to "sign in using my school or work account" and sign in with your full OHIO email address and password.

If you receive an "Administrative privileges required" error when installing a Windows version, find the Office 365 installer file you downloaded (usually in your Downloads folder), right click the file and choose "Run as Administrator."

iOS

  1. Go to the App Store.
  2. Search for Office 365 and choose the apps you want (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
  3. Once the install finishes, open the app.
  4. Scroll through the welcome screens and click Get Started.
  5. When asked to sign in, enter your full @ohio.edu email address.
  6. If given a choice, select Organizational Account or Work Account.
  7. Enter your OHIO password.

Android

  1. Go to Google Play.
  2. Search for Office 365 and choose the apps you want (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
  3. Click INSTALL.
  4. Accept the app's permissions request.
  5. Click INSTALL.
  6. Agree to the terms and conditions.
  7. Once the install is complete, open the app.
  8. Scroll through the welcome screens.
  9. When prompted to activate, enter your OHIO email address.
  10. If given a choice, select Organizational Account or Work Account.
  11. Enter your OHIO password.
