Microsoft productivity suite subscription that includes stand-alone, downloadable desktop clients and mobile apps.

Cost

  • No charge for current students, eligible full-time employees, emeriti, and part-time or adjunct faculty who are actively teaching*
  • $58 per year for part-time staff

How to Request

Current students and eligible full-time employees

No request needed. Access is granted automatically based on your role at the university. Follow the instructions below to install Office 365.

Emeriti

Contact the IT Service Desk to request or renew your Office 365 subscription. Once the Service Desk has activated your subscription, follow the instructions below to install Office 365.

You will need to renew your Office 365 subscription (at no charge) each year in June. We will send you a reminder via email when it is time to renew.

Part-time and adjunct faculty who are actively teaching

If you are teaching at least one class, you can contact the IT Service Desk to request an Office 365 subscription. Once the Service Desk has verified your teaching status, you will receive a subscription that is valid through June 2020. Follow the instructions below to install Office 365.

*Part-time and adjunct faculty are not included in the main terms of the university's Microsoft license agreement. Access is being provided through June 2020 to allow university leadership time to identify the best long-term approach for part-time and adjunct faculty access. 

Part-time staff

Contact the IT Service Desk to request an Office 365 subscription. We then will contact your department for budget approval and a departmental account number for billing.

Once your subscription has been approved and activated, follow the instructions below to install Office 365. Your department will need to renew your subscription annually. We will send a reminder via email when it is time to renew.

How to Install

Emeriti, part-time and adjunct faculty: You must have an active Office 365 subscription (see above) before you can install Office 365.

University-owned, managed computers

Windows (SCCM)

  1. Make sure your computer is connected to the OHIO network (wired or eduroam wi-fi for on-campus, VPN for off-campus).
  2. Open your Start Menu.
  3. Choose All Programs | Microsoft System Center | Software Manager
  4. Choose MS Office 365 - User Licensed.
  5. Once Office finishes installing, open one of the Office applications like Word or Excel and follow the prompts.
  6. If you are asked to sign in, choose Sign in using my school or work account and use your full @ohio.edu email address and OHIO password.

Mac (Munki)

  1. Make sure your computer is connected to the OHIO network (wired or eduroam wi-fi for on-campus, VPN for off-campus).
  2. Under Applications, open Managed Software Center.
  3. Under Software, choose Microsoft_Office_2019. If this installer is not visible, you may need to contact your departmental IT technician to enable it.
  4. Once Office finishes installing, open one of the Office applications like Word or Excel and follow the prompts.
  5. If you are asked to sign in, choose Sign in using my school or work account and use your full @ohio.edu email address and OHIO password.

Personal devices and unmanaged university computers

Windows and Mac

  1. Log into https://catmail.ohio.edu.
  2. Choose the gear icon in the upper right corner of your Catmail window and choose Office 365 Settings.
  3. Choose Software.
  4. Choose Office.
  5. Click the link to install the latest version of Office.
  6. Once the installer finishes downloading, open it, and follow the prompts.
  7. If prompted to sign in, choose the option to "sign in using my school or work account" and sign in with your full OHIO email address and password.

If you receive an "Administrative privileges required" error when installing a Windows version, find the Office 365 installer file you downloaded (usually in your Downloads folder), right click the file and choose "Run as Administrator."

iOS

  1. Go to the App Store.
  2. Search for Office 365 and choose the apps you want (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
  3. Once the install finishes, open the app.
  4. Scroll through the welcome screens and click Get Started.
  5. When asked to sign in, enter your full @ohio.edu email address.
  6. If given a choice, select Organizational Account or Work Account.
  7. Enter your OHIO password.

Android

  1. Go to Google Play.
  2. Search for Office 365 and choose the apps you want (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
  3. Click INSTALL.
  4. Accept the app's permissions request.
  5. Click INSTALL.
  6. Agree to the terms and conditions.
  7. Once the install is complete, open the app.
  8. Scroll through the welcome screens.
  9. When prompted to activate, enter your OHIO email address.
  10. If given a choice, select Organizational Account or Work Account.
  11. Enter your OHIO password.
