Fonts: OHIO brand approved

Effective January 1, 2019, EB Garamond and Barlow replaced Galliard and Frutiger as OHIO's brand-approved primary fonts. Zilla Slab remains in use as a secondary font.

How to Install

Windows

Centrally Managed

If you need to install fonts on a centrally managed Windows computer, please contact your departmental IT technician or the IT Service Desk

Unmanaged 

You must be logged into your computer as an administrator to install fonts. If you do not have administrator access, contact the IT Service Desk for help.

  1. Download the zipped font packages and save them in a location you can access easily, like your Downloads folder or your Desktop:
  2. Navigate to the folder where you downloaded the ZIP files and double-click each one. This will create a folder named after each font.
  3. Open each font's folder, highlight all of its font files, right-click the highlighted list, and choose Install

Mac OS

You will need to know your Mac's administrator password to install fonts. If you do not have administrator access to your Mac, the IT Service Desk can help. 

  1. Download the zipped font packages and save them in a location you can access easily, like your Downloads folder or your Desktop:
  2. Navigate to the folder where you downloaded the ZIP files and double-click each one. This will create a folder named after each font.
  3. Open each font's folder, double-click each font file, and choose Install Font in the resulting font preview window.
  4. If prompted, enter the administrator password for your Mac.

How to Remove Frutiger and ITC Galliard

You must be logged into your computer as an administrator to remove fonts. If you do not have administrator access, the IT Service Desk can help.

Windows

  1. Open the Control Panel.
  2. Open the Fonts control panel.
  3. Right-click and select Delete on each of the following font files:
    • Frutiger 45
    • Frutiger 45 Light
    • Frutiger 55 Roman
    • Frutiger 95 UltraBlack Regular
    • Frutiger Linotype Regular
    • Galliard
    • Galliard BT
  4. Note: You will likely see a warning stating, “Are you sure? If you delete this font, some text might not appear as you intended.” Please click Yes.
  5. With some Windows computers, you may need to complete these steps twice before Frutiger and Galliard are completely removed.
  6. Though not required, we suggest restarting your computer after removing font sets.

Mac OS

  1. In Applications, open Font Book.
  2. In the Font Book navigation pane, choose All Fonts
  3. Scroll down until you find the entry for Frutiger.
  4. Right-click (or Command-click) Frutiger and choose Show in Finder.
  5. In the resulting window, drag the selected font file(s) to the Trash.
  6. If prompted, enter your admin password, then empty the Trash.
  7. Repeat steps 1-4 for the Galliard font family.

Note: It is important to delete, not just disable the Frutiger and Galliard font families.
