Ohio University Board of Trustees appoints John P. Gainor as new national trustee

The Ohio University Board of Trustees appointed John P. Gainor to a three-year term as a national trustee during its March 22 meeting.

Gainor, who received a bachelor of science in communications from Ohio University in 1978, is the former president and chief executive officer of International Dairy Queen. He is a 2016 recipient of the Medal of Merit from Ohio University, an award given to alumni who have achieved high distinction in their chosen professional fields.

Gainor joined International Dairy Queen as chief supply chain officer in 2003 and was promoted to president and CEO in 2008. While there he worked to modernize the company’s brand and focused on improving the company’s fan experience to drive sales and profitability.

“I am most pleased and excited to welcome John Gainor to the Ohio University Board of Trustees,” Board Chairman Dave Scholl said. “Fellow trustees are grateful to John for his engagement and service. His wisdom and professional experience gained through his successful career, which started as a student here at Ohio University, will further strengthen an already very strong Board and be a tremendous governing asset to his alma mater.”

Gainor previously served as president and co-founder of Supply Solutions, Inc. He held a number of positions at Prosource, Inc., including senior vice president of logistics and vice president of operations support.

Gainor fills the position formerly held by National Trustee Laura Brege.
