Executive director of Oregon ACLU to discuss police killings of minorities in America March 27

Mat dos Santos, executive director of the Oregon ACLU, will serve as the featured guest of the next ‘90 Minutes Series’ talk at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, in Schoonover Center 145.

One of the topics he will address is the recent death of a Portland teenager at the business end of a police officer’s gun. In coming to Athens, dos Santos will discuss how pervasive such killings are in America.

While dos Santos can’t promise any concrete answers, he can speak to the fears that follow black and Hispanic males when their worlds collide with police. OHIO journalism major Tee Willis will conduct the interview.

The Ohio University “90 Minutes Series” talks create discussions about politics, racism, sexism, and other global topics. Their purpose is to expose OHIO students to men and women who have faced adversity or who have seen discrimination happen to others but who have stepped forward to address those issues. They are always free and open to the public.
