University ready to celebrate Dads Weekend, Nov. 3-5

Whether it’s a freshman’s first or a senior’s last, 2017 Ohio University’s Dads Weekend is set to kick off Friday, Nov. 3 and run through Sunday, Nov. 5.

Bobcats have the opportunity to bond with their dads at more than a dozen University-hosted events throughout the weekend.

Here’s a look at some of the weekends top events.

Friday, Nov. 3

7 p.m. | Athena Cinema Dads Weekend Movie Event: Enjoy the classic 1995  movie, “Tommy Boy,” starring Chris Farley and David Spade at the Athena Cinema on Court Street. Purchase tickets online for $7. The movie also shows on Saturday.

7:30 p.m. | OHIO Hockey vs. Davenport University: Watch the Bobcats battle on the ice at Bird Arena. Student tickets are $5 and adult tickets are $8. The teams also play on Saturday.

7:30 p.m. - 11 p.m. | Dads Weekend Stargazing and Campfire: Venture to The Ridges with Outdoor Pursuits to enjoy a starry nighttime sky and campfire. Those wishing to participate should meet at Ping Recreation Center at 7:40 p.m. for transportation. Tour guides and campfire goodies are provided. Registration is required and the cost is $10 per person.

Saturday, Nov. 4

10 a.m. - 4 p.m. | Alden Open 2017 Mini Golf and games: Alden Library will transform its first, third and fourth floors into a miniature golf course for students and their fathers to enjoy. Cost is $5 per person for nine holes.

Noon | Dads Weekend 3v3 Basketball Tournament: Head over to Ping to compete in a special Dads Weekend 3v3 basketball tournament. Fathers, family, friends and non-OHIO students are welcome to play. Registration is required. The cost is $20 per team.

1 p.m. | OHIO Women’s Basketball vs. Walsh University: Cheer on the OHIO Women’s Basketball Team at the Convocation Center as it takes on Walsh. Student admission is free and adult tickets are $20. Buy online or over the phone.

3:30 p.m. | OHIO Men’s Basketball vs. Capital: Stay at The Convo after the women’s team takes on Walsh to watch the men’s basketball team host Capital University. Student admission is free and adult tickets cost $20. You can buy tickets online or over the phone.

8 p.m. | Dave Coulier Comedy Special: Best known for his role as “Joey” on Full House, Coulier will put on a special comedy show for students and their dads at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. Tickets are $30 for the first 10 rows of seating and $20 for all other seats. Purchase tickets at the TBAMA box office or online at http://purchase.tickets.com/buy/TicketPurchase

8 - 10 p.m. | Public Telescope Nights at the Ohio University Observatory: Students can take their dads to The Ridges to view parts of our solar system through the University observatory with the help of astronomy faculty and students. Parking is free and available in lots 200, 201 and 202. This event is free and open to the public.

Sunday, Nov. 5

10 a.m. - 1 p.m. | Dad’s Weekend Pancake Breakfast: Come enjoy pancakes made by Chris Cakes put on by BobcaThon, benefiting the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Ohio, at Walter Hall Rotunda.
