Ohio University celebrated the work of Distinguished Professor Steven Evans on Wednesday, March 16.

During the Distinguished Professor Portrait Unveiling and Lecture, Evans shared thoughts about his time at OHIO, discussed the work that he has focused on throughout his career and even shared the stage with his granddaughter Sophia. Evans is a Distinguished Professor of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences and co-director of the Center for Intervention Research in Schools.

In his remarks, Evans said he was honored to receive the Distinguished Professor award and stressed that he is grateful he has been able to work in a supportive environment with outstanding colleagues throughout his career.

"When you have good people working together, good things happen," Evans said.

Evans thanked his family and friends for their support, and said that he considers his wife, Judy Evans, as the co-recipient of the honor. Evans also recognized his mentor, Bill Pelham, who visited Ohio University for the March 16 event.

Also during his inspiring remarks, Evans discussed two main focuses of his career, school mental health counseling and treatment development for adolescents with ADHD. To hear Evans’ full remarks, please see this video from the event.

Ohio University President Hugh Sherman also spoke during the evening and congratulated Evans on receiving this prestigious award.

“The Distinguished Professor Award is the highest academic honor and permanent recognition attainable by faculty at Ohio University,” Sherman said. The award was established by Edwin and Ruth Kennedy in 1959, during the presidency of John Calhoun Baker.

“Dr. Steven Evans is an outstanding faculty member who has reached the highest level of scholarly achievement and is worthy to carry on the vision and legacy that the Kennedys intended when establishing this award,” Sherman said.

Distinguished Professor Chris France also spoke during the evening, presenting the introduction for Dr. Evans.

“Steve is a tireless and dedicated researcher whose positive impact on mental health care grows every day,” France said.
