Faculty and Guest Curated Exhibitions

Dion_Carr Named in honor of Edwin L. and Ruth E. Kennedy, Kennedy Museum of Art is an integral part of the educational, research and public service missions of Ohio University. As an academic museum with a teaching mission, the Museum provides Ohio University students, faculty and staff, as well as the greater community, with engaging and thought provoking encounters. Exhibitions, programs and events are designed to acknowledge that art is best experienced when presented in a contextual and interdisciplinary environment. To that end, the Museum serves as a learning laboratory for Ohio University, community schools and visitors.

Exhibition Proposal Process
Kennedy Museum of Art (KMA) seeks exhibitions that are interdisciplinary. KMA will work with guest curators to help develop exhibition proposals. Before submitting a proposal, please be sure to familiarize yourself with the Museum’s exhibition criteria and request a meeting with the Museum’s Exhibitions and Collections Manager.

KMA accepts proposals as they are submitted. The Museum may request additional information or revisions. Proposals will be reviewed by the exhibition committee. Please note that exhibitions are selected and scheduled 24-36 months in advance, so plan accordingly. Applicants will be notified about the status of their application within a 4-6 weeks. All applications must meet the Museum’s proposal criteria. If an exhibition is chosen, all parties on the application are required to meet with the Museum’s director and exhibitions manager to finalize the guest curator contract.

Exhibition Proposal Criteria

  • Clarity and articulation of a central idea
  • Potential partnerships with Ohio University departments and classes
  • Clear connections to the University’s academic mission Innovation of both the proposed theme and content of the exhibition
  • Opportunities for Ohio University student involvement
  • Opportunities for compelling programming such as lectures, performances, discussions, etc.

Exhibition Proposal Instructions
Proposal essay must include a curatorial statement addressing the exhibition criteria above. Include a proposed object list and resume(s).
