Primary Care and Health Outcomes Research

About our program

Primary Care and Health Outcomes Research is a strategic collaboration between the departments of Family Medicine, Geriatrics, Pediatrics, Social Medicine, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, Specialty Medicine, and Community Health as well as other collaborators within Heritage College, Ohio University and our community. It operates within the Clinical & Translational Research Unit to advance health outcomes research and offers support for all stages of research, from initial conception to dissemination.

Primary care researchers have expertise in diabetes, health policy, geriatrics, palliative care, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, rural and underserved populations, food insecurity, women’s health, maternal, infant and child health, childhood obesity, patient-provider communication, medical education, community-based research, trauma informed care, osteopathic principles and practices, veterans’ health, nutrition, lifestyle medicine, behavioral health integration, global health, patient navigation, and Amish health.

Our mission is to

  • provide a collaborative environment where faculty, students, residents and community members can work together to translate science into practice of medicine and caring for our patients and communities;
  • evaluate innovations to provide the best health care to patients;
  • understand how to better organize health care to meet the needs of patient and population needs; and
  • engage patients, communities, and practices to improve health overall.

Our vision is to be nationally recognized as one of the leading colleges for primary care and health outcomes research.
