Osteopathic Medicine Recognition Month
Spotlight Our Profession
It's April, Let's Raise Awareness for Osteopathic Medicine
In 2016, Ohio Gov. John Kasich signed House Bill 352, designating April as Osteopathic Medicine Recognition Month to honor the "significant contributions made by the osteopathic field of medicine to improve the health of Ohioans." State Rep. Terry Johnson, D.O., a 1991 Heritage College graduate, had put forth the bill as both an acknowledgment of the 40th anniversary of the founding of this college and in appreciation of the considerable efforts of Ohio's many osteopathic physicians and organizations. April is our time to lift up our achievements and our pride in the osteopathic profession.

Heritage College Fact Sheet
Ohio has long been a stronghold of osteopathic medicine. In 1975, when the Ohio governor signed legislation previously passed by the Ohio General Assembly creating our college, Ohio ranked third among U.S. states for its number of practicing D.O.s, despite having no osteopathic medical college. Today, the Heritage College is a nationally recognized osteopathic medical school and a leader in medical education, having graduated more than 3,500 osteopathic physicians and surgeons.
