OMNI grant program selects first recipients

 

(ATHENS, Ohio Ė Jan. 28, 2012) Ohio Musculoskeletal and Neurological Institute's (OMNI) Executive Committee announced the recipients of its 2012-13 pilot grant program funded from the Osteopathic Heritage Foundationsí historic 2011 gift to the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.   

The OMNI pilot grants are given to foster innovation and collaboration across disciplines at Ohio University, and support and facilitate research aimed at improving the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disorders of the musculoskeletal and neurological systems and their component tissues.  

The following three recipients were funded:

Project: Development of computer-based gaming software for treatment of low back pain

Relevance: OMNIís Chronic and Low Back Pain Disorders Research Program

Recipients: James S. Thomas, P.T., Ph.D., professor in the School of Rehabilitation and Communication Sciences, and Christopher R. France, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Psychology
Amount: $13,200

 

Project: TRANSIT - Therapy for the Treatment of Knee Osteoarthritis

Relevance: OMNIís Sarcopenia and Dynapenia Research Program as well as their Exercise Physiology and Rehabilitation Medicine Research Program

Recipients: David Russ, P.T., Ph.D., assistant professor in the School of Communication and Rehabilitation Sciences, and Richard Willy, P.T., Ph.D., assistant professor of the School of Communication and Rehabilitation Sciences
Amount: $8,700

 

Project: MRTA Validation and Applicability to Type 2 Osteoporosis

Relevance: OMNIís Connective Tissue, Bone, & Cutaneous Biology Research Program

Recipients: Anne Loucks, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, and John Cotton, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering
