Bike Rodeo Pedals Into Athens May 10

(ATHENS, Ohio—April 21, 2014) Children throughout Athens County are invited to learn about bicycle safety during the 13th annual Athens Bike Rodeo, hosted by the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. The free event will be held Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. until noon at the Athens Community Center, rain or shine.

During the bike rodeo, children can learn bicycle hand signals and navigation techniques, have their bicycles inspected and repaired, challenge themselves on a safety course and ride through Safety Town. All children must be accompanied by an adult to participate in the activities.

Two hundred free bike helmets will be given to participants on a first-come, first-served basis, and all children who preregister will be entered into a drawing for a new mountain bike. To be entered into the raffle, email the child’s and parents’ names, the child’s school, grade level, bike style, address, phone number and e-mail address to before 5 p.m. on Friday, May 9.

The Bike Rodeo is made possible through the generous support of the Heritage College; OhioHealth O’Bleness Hospital; University Medical Associates; Athens Bicycle; the American Academy of Pediatrics; WellWorks; COMCorps, an AmeriCorps program administered by the Heritage College; the Athens Community Center; The Athens NEWS, Precision Imprint; and Shawna Stump/State Farm Insurance.
