Bike Rodeo rides again: Fun, safety and freebies

(ATHENS, Ohio – April 22, 2013) OU-HCOM's 12th annual Athens Bike Rodeo will roll into the Athens Community Center, Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to noon, rain or shine.

Children of all ages from all Athens County schools are invited by the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Student Association American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians to bring their bikes and helmets to the free event, which focuses on bicycle safety education.

Children will learn bicycle hand signals and navigation techniques, have their bicycles inspected and repaired, challenge themselves on a safety course and ride through Safety Town. Two hundred free bike helmets will be given to participants on a first come, first serve basis, provided by University Medical Associates and TEAMHealth Midwest, and a children’s mountain bike from Athens Bicycle will be raffled off.

Pre-register by Friday, May 17, at noon by e-mailing and providing the child’s and parents’ names, the child’s school, grade level and bike style, address, phone number and e-mail address. Only children pre-registered for the event will be entered into the raffle, and all children must be accompanied by an adult to participate. Download the registration form here: Bike Rodeo Flyer.pdf

The Athens Bike Rodeo is made possible with support from the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, WellWorks, COMCorps, Ohio University Police Department, Athens Community Center, Athens County Children’s Services, American Academy of Pediatrics, The Athens NEWS, O’Bleness Health System and Precision Imprint.
