OMM Clinic

Providing free Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine

Ostoepathic Manipulative Medicine Clinic provides treatment to uninsured and underinsured patients of southeastern Ohio ages 18 to 64 at the Heritage Community Clinic in Athens. Clinic services are provided by volunteer OMM Honors Students and Physicians from the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. Students, in collaboration with a precepting physician, provide treatment giving them the opportunity to advance their skills and understanding of OMM, while patients receive needed care.

Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine is hands-on care. It involves using the hands to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness or injury. Using OMM the medical student or physician will move the muscles and joints using techniques including stretching, gentle pressure and resistance.

Who Can Benefit From OMM?

OMM can help people of all ages and backgrounds. The treatment can be used to ease pain, promote healing and increase overall mobility. OMM is often used to treat muscle pain but it can also help patients with a number of other health problems such as:

  • asthma
  • sinus disorders
  • carpal tunnel syndrome
  • migraines
  • menstrual pain

When appropriate, OMM can complement, and even replace, drugs or surgery. In this way, OMM brings an important dimension to standard medical care.
