Office of Research and Grants

Welcome from the Associate Dean for Research and Innovation

Sonia Najjar Reaching Toward Excellence

I began my full-time tenure as associate dean for research and grants at the Heritage College in February 2016. Since then, I have embarked on one of the most challenging, yet exciting missions in my professional life.

Several factors attracted me to the Heritage College. These include: the vision and the commitment of Heritage College leadership to excellence in research, prior identification of research areas focusing on diseases that afflict our population, the expansion of the college into two other campuses situated in strategic locations such as Dublin and Cleveland, the support by the Ohio University vice president for research, and the outstanding quality of our students.

The opportunity to impact the research mission and transform the Heritage College into a leading research entity among other osteopathic medical schools is what inspired me to assume this position. I am confident that we will soon drive the research enterprise on a steady path toward excellence. Banking on existing strengths, on the exemplary commitment of the college to medical research, and on the enthusiasm for collaborative research at the university level, I am certain that we will be able to leverage our resources and research strengths to develop several programmatic platforms that will position the Heritage College on the crossroads of excellence in medical research and innovation. I aim to strengthen the existing research base and create new venues to transform the Heritage College into a national nexus for advanced research in osteopathic medicine. I am confident that I will be able to instill an inclusive culture that elevates the standard of research to a distinguished level. This will be accomplished by building a strategy focused on securing an appropriate infrastructure to engage our medical students in scholarly activities and designing a novel integrated approach to research and innovation.
