Undergraduate Majors

Ohio University's nine undergraduate colleges offer more than 250 programs of study. Students may select from a wide variety of majors, minors and certificates. While most undergraduate programs at the Athens campus are designed to be completed in four years, a limited number of two-year degree programs are available as well.

Program Overview

The biochemistry major serves students who have an interest in biological applications of chemistry as a biochemist or health scientist in medicine, industry, or research; as preparation for graduate studies in biochemistry or another life science, such as molecular biology, microbiology, or immunology; or as preparation for combining a career in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, etc., with research.

Change to Program Policy

Students wishing to change or add a chemistry major or minor at Ohio University should go to the Undergraduate Student Services Office in the College of Arts and Sciences located on the first floor of Wilson Hall (Main Green).

External Transfer Admission

No requirements beyond University admission requirements.

Opportunities Upon Graduation

Students with a B.S. degree in biochemistry can go on to a wide variety of higher education and career opportunities. These opportunities range from research positions, careers in healthcare, education, scientific journalism, and more. Possible employers include, but are not limited to, pharmaceutical and chemical companies, university, hospital, and federal government laboratories law firms, such as research, industry or medicine.
