Enrollment in Special Education program is limited and requires additional criteria beyond the college admission requirements. Students enrolled in this program must specialize in one of two Intervention Specialist programs: teaching students with mild-to-moderate needs; or teaching students with moderate-to-intensive needs.
The Intervention Specialist programs at both the Mild-Moderate and Moderate-Intensive are Nationally Recognized by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC).

The Patton College of Education has been a proud pillar of Ohio University since 1886, when it became the first state-supported teacher preparation program in Ohio. The Patton College of Education's teacher and administrator preparation programs are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. Counselor education programs in the college are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Programs and the Council on Rehabilitation Education.
