U.S. Government Documents
Ohio University Libraries has been a Federal Depository Library for the Sixth Congressional District since 1886. The U.S. Government Collection contains information published at government expense for public access as guaranteed by law, but remains the property of the U.S. Government.
The Ohio University Libraries Government Documents collection is an 80% selective partner with the Government Printing Office (GPO) Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP). The collection caters primarily to the needs of the Ohio University students, faculty and staff, as well as the Athens city and county and the Sixth Congressional District communities. The focus of the collection includes but is not limited to environment, geology, earth sciences, education, health, public policy, and legal topics and has titles available in every conceivable format – paper, microform, CD-Rom, DVD, and online. Materials published after 1975 are searchable by title, keyword, author, subject, etc. in the ALICE Catalog. The collection is arranged on the shelves by the SuDoc Classification System.
State of Ohio Documents
The State of Ohio has a similar depository system to the federal one. Selected Ohio Documents are available via the ALICE Catalog. More information can be found on our Ohio Documents page.
The State Library of Ohio contains a comprehensive collection of U.S. and Ohio documents.
United Nations Documents
This collection includes the Readex Microfiche Collection from 1991 as well as other UN publications from 1946. More information on locating those publications can be found on our United Nations Documents page.
The map collection includes titles published both by the U.S. government, such as the United States Geographical Survey (USGS), the National Image and Mapping Agency (formerly Defense Mapping Agency), U.S. Forest Service and the Central Intelligence Agency, as well as topographic maps for Ohio and other states, and large wall current and historical thematic and political maps. For consultation on maps research, contact Michael Farmer. In addition to the maps in this collection, Alden Library has many additional atlases and gazetteers in other locations–and there are many online map sources as well.
