Lancaster – The holiday season is getting into full swing at Ohio University Lancaster. That's because It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play officially opens on Thursday. This is the second year the Lancaster Campus Theatre is doing the show.
"It was such as success last year with people saying immediately afterwards that they loved it," said Theatre Director Victor Jones. "I knew we had to do it again."
The play is inspired by the classic American film, It's a Wonderful Life. This version is performed as a 1940s live radio broadcast.
Jones said the show is very family-friendly. The cast is doing a matinee for area school children the day before the play officially opens.
"There's some special effects that happen during the last five minutes of the show that people generally stop watching the actors on stage because it is so beautiful," said Jones."The children really love that part."
The show is one hour and 20 minutes long. Many of the cast members from last year's performance are returning for this year's show. The cast members are doing the play again because the show meant so much to them last year.
"We're going to do a holiday show every year. Whether it's going to be It's a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, I don't know," said Jones."But, this show just helps set the holiday mood and get you in the mood."
The show starts its run on Thursday, December 6 at 7 p.m. The Fairfield Union Men's Chorus will do a pre-show performance that evening. Then, on Friday, December 7, the Lancaster Men's Chorus will do the pre-show performance. The show runs through Sunday, December 9. Tickets are still available.
