September 18, 2012

Lancaster – Many Ohio University Lancaster | Pickerington scholarship recipients were recognized at the annual scholarship celebration on Wednesday, September 12. About 25 recipients attended the event in the Ohio University Lancaster gymnasium.

"Here tonight, we have our incoming freshman and upper class scholarship recipients whose academic achievements and hard work have earned them the gift of education," said Lancaster Dean Jim Smith. "And we have our donors who have built a legacy at OUL by creating endowed scholarships that will benefit our students for years to come."

The Ohio University Lancaster Campus has 34 scholarships it awards annually. The Ohio University Lancaster Scholarship Committee selects the students for each scholarship.

"It is no easy task to select who gets the scholarships," said Enrollment Manager Pat Fox. "We get many deserving applicants each year."

Each scholarship recipient was asked to stand when their names were read and be recognized.A listing of this year's scholarship recipients is available on the Ohio University Lancaster web site at  Donors in attendance were also called by name.

Recognition was also given to external organizations that administer a number of scholarships for students. That included Bill and Sally Sitterley, who manage the Sitterley Scholarship Trusts. Amy Eyman represented the scholarships given through the Fairfield County Foundation.

"The program provides scholarships for students who attend state schools throughout Ohio and every year, OUL is fortunate enough to be chosen by Sitterley Trust Scholars," said Fox.

Scholarship recipients and their parents had the opportunity to dine with scholarship donors. At the end of the evening, the Ohio University Alumni Band played for the crowd.
