December 21, 2017 : OUL Theatre’s Moon Over Buffalo Selected for Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival

moon2Ohio University Lancaster Theatre’s performance of Moon over Buffalo has been selected to participate in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival taking place January 20 on the campus of Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, Pennsylvania.

“It’s an exciting time to be a part of Ohio University Lancaster Theatre’s Program right now!” said A. Victor Jones, Artistic Director and Lecturer of Theatre for Ohio University Lancaster “The preparation and planning to take a show this big on the road with the entire cast and the full set is challenging."

To prepare for the festival participation, OUL Theatre will present a sendoff performance of Moon Over Buffalo Friday, January 12 at 7 pm with a reception to follow at 9 pm in OUL’s Wagner Theatre. Admission is free and tickets are available online at

“Lighting Designer Dale Harris, student assistant to Dale Harris Alexandra Downour, Stage Manager Brenton LeuVoy, theatre assistant Brooke Arnold and I will all travel to Indiana University in Indiana, Pennsylvania this Monday to walk through the performance space and check out all of the technical aspects of the theatre. Our set for Ken Ludwig’s Moon Over Buffalo must go up in four hours along with a 1 1/2 hour tech. This will all be well-choreographed and rehearsed to make sure we get it completed in the time permitted. I know that the education and training our students have received on our campus has prepared them for this amazing opportunity.” Said Jones.

Described as a crazy comedy where everything that can go wrong, does go wrong, Moon Over Buffalo centers on George and Charlotte Hay, fading stars of the 1950s. On the brink of a disastrous split-up caused by George’s dalliance with a young ingénue, they receive word that they might just have one last shot at stardom: Frank Capra is coming to town to see their matinee, and if he likes what he sees, he might cast them in his movie. Unfortunately for George and Charlotte, everything that could go wrong does go wrong, abetted by a visit from their daughter’s clueless fiancé and hilarious uncertainty about which play they’re actually performing, caused by Charlotte’s deaf, old stage-manager mother who hates every bone in George’s body.

“We are already rehearsing Ken Ludwig’s Moon Over Buffalo for our performance at the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. Plus, I am also coaching our Irene Ryan acting scholarship acting nominees for their competition. Those students are Brooke Arnold, Hunter Allen, Austin Ream, and alternate Rashaan Holloway.”

The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival is a nearly 50 year-old national program involving colleges and universities from across the country and serves as a catalyst in improving college theater in the United States. The Festival offers students a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the creative process, see one another's work, and share experiences and insights within the community of theater artists. Select students also participate in the Irene Ryan acting scholarship competition to develop their theater skills and insight, and achieve professionalism.

Contributions to the OUL Theatre Program Support Fund are needed and will be used to offset the travel expenses associated with the trip to the Festival.
