“As Classified Senate chair, I will conduct the meetings of the Classified Senate and represent Classified Senate to the university administration, Board of Trustees and serve on administrative position searches,” said Lape. “The chair works closely with the president, provost and assistant vice president for Human Resources. I will also serve on the Budget Planning Committee.”
Lape has been a member of Classified Senate since 2008. She has served as secretary for the last two years. As secretary, Lape was responsible for roll call, committee listings, mailings, and recording the monthly minutes. Lape thinks there are many opportunities with the new role.
“I am very excited to become chair so that I can represent the Classified Senate and get more involved with the Athens Campus,” said Lape. “I am also excited that I will be the first chair that is an employee of a regional campus. I am hoping also to be the voice for the regional campuses and help fill the gap that sometimes exists between Athens and the regionals.”
The Classified Senate was created to provide a formal mechanism for ongoing discussion, information exchange, and consultation on matters concerning classified employees at Ohio University.
“It is a one-year term,” said Lape. “Then I will become past-chair for another year to help throughout the year.”
