December 04, 2014 : VIDEO: OUL Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams Defend Titles
- Cheri Russo
Communications and Marketing Manager

Lancaster – The Ohio University Lancaster Men’s and Women’s basketball teams are defending their titles this season, and it’s something both teams are taking very seriously.  The women’s team won the state title last year, while the men’s team won the Ohio Regional Campus Conference East Division title.

“We have a target on our back since we were the state champions,” said OUL Women’s Senior Paige Stought. “We’re having fun defending our title.”

“We’re a really close team,” said OUL Women’s Sophomore Morgan Kirkbride. “We’re also close to the men’s team. The two teams hang out together.”

“We want to take it to the next level,” said OUL Men’s Senior Austin Cox. “You can always get better.  We can start getting better with the basic principles.  We need to play as a team.”

‘We need to play as a team and to believe in each other. If we do that, we have the skills,” said OUL Men’s Junior Korey Arledge.

Players on both teams said they are noticing more people in the bleachers at their home games, and that is helping them play well. They believe they are becoming known in the community for their quality play.

“We’re all playing to have fun and enjoy the game,” said Stought. “We want to win every game that we can but at the end of the day we’re having fun doing it.  It’s something to enjoy.”

“Overall it’s a wonderful experience to be able to continue playing after high school,” said Cox. ”If I wasn’t playing here, I wouldn’t be playing anywhere else.”

The next home game for the men’s team is December 17.  The next home game for the women is January 7.
