September 16, 2014 : SLIDESHOW: Pop Culture Art Exhibit Opens Thursday in the Wilkes Art Gallery
- Cheri Russo
Communications and Marketing Manager

Lancaster – Art, featuring pop culture icons like Elton John, Michael Jackson and Andy Warhol, is hanging in the Raymond S. Wilkes Gallery for the Visual Arts for the next couple of months as part of the latest exhibit.  The exhibit by Lancaster’s own Wayne Williams is a compilation of Williams’ work in the area of pop culture art.

“Pop culture art is a broad term, but Wayne has focused on trendy things we see every day in society,” said OUL Development Director Mandi Custer who helped arrange the exhibit. “The show looks great.  Many of the the pieces are black and white.  People are going to see everything from Johnny Cash to Starbucks.  Any of those cultural icons that you think of, chances are they are in this exhibition.”

The exhibit is called “Pop Goes the Easel” and opens Thursday, September 18 at 5 p.m.  The display is free and open to the public.

“Wayne is really a neat guy. He is a truck driver by day and an artist by night,” said Custer. “We are really excited to have him here.”

The exhibit will be on display from September 18 to December 12.  The art gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
