June 20, 2019 : Ohio University Lancaster Theatre’s “LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL” Cast Preparing for Opening Night

by Kellie Crawford

legally blondeThe opening night for Ohio University Lancaster Theatre’s production of Legally Blonde The Musical is swiftly approaching. Legally Blonde The Musical is the stage adaption of the classic Reese Witherspoon movie following the journey of a spunky blonde. Rehearsals for the show have been dedicated to making sure that every scene is perfect by opening night on July 21st. The performance opens during the historic Lancaster Festival on Sunday, July 21, and it is a featured event that day.

“This is a community theatre production with a cast that comes from all over central Ohio,” said A. Victor Jones, artistic director and lecturer of theatre for Ohio University Lancaster. “This is our eighth year participating in the historic Lancaster Festival. We are so honored to be included in this special festival!”

The choreography, set design and performances are bound to be spectacular. Cast and crew are working around the clock to bring the upbeat and fun atmosphere to the stage. Songs like “OMIGOD Guys,” “Positive,” “Ireland,” “Bend and Snap,” “Legally Blonde” and “Find My Way” are sure to thrill audiences.

The majority of the numbers for Legally Blonde The Musical go along with high-energy, highly demanding choreography. Frances Gaskill, Choreographer for the show, has been perfecting her choreography for months. Watching actors perform her work makes her feel proud; “to see them adding their own personality into the choreography, it shows that they are enjoying what they are doing,” she shares. “Whipped Into Shape” has been one of her favorite numbers to put together because it is fun, so tiring and uses the unusual dance prop of a jump rope. Frances shares that “the cast consists of triple threats and hard-working actors. The talent shines throughout the entire show. I am blessed to be a part of this production.”

As Assistant Director, Jennifer Myers, helps oversee all aspects of Legally Blonde The Musical. She loves collaborating with both Director A. Victor Jones and the actors. “I 've been best friends with Victor for over 40 years, so any collaboration with him is a joy- but to work closely with the young group of actors is a real joy,” she shares.

Director Jones will also have the assistance of Brooke Arnold and Alexandra Downour, both of whom have ample amounts of experience in the theatre. Brooke highlights the show as “enjoyable for the entire family!” Stage Manager Abby Reeves will also be working diligently to ensure that the show runs smoothly both on stage and behind the scenes.

The lead role of Elle Woods will be played by veteran actress, Eryn Hollobaugh, which has been a dream of hers for many years. Eryn’s main reason for loving the character is because “Elle has a great motto that everyone should hold onto: Believe in yourself!”

Adam Dominick, who has been a part of the theatre program at the Lancaster campus for the past eight years, will be bringing the role of Warner, Elle’s college boyfriend, to life. Adam shares that the show is a “non-stop train of comedy, energy, and fun. It has such a powerful and relevant message that any audience can understand and appreciate.”

Jeanie McGarvey, another experienced actress, will be tackling the role of Paulette, Elle’s best friend. Jeanie describes Paulette as “brassy, joyful, and a tad bit trashy (but we love her anyway). Her goofy and genuine nature are what makes her so loveable.” She shares that Legally Blonde The Musical has “one of the most talented casts I have ever worked with. The show is pure joy and the story is iconic. There is something for everyone to enjoy. I promise you won't be disappointed.”
