September 30, 2014 : OUL Theatre Offers $5 Opening Night Tickets
- Cheri Russo
Communications and Marketing Manager

Lancaster – Students, faculty, staff and community members can see the opening night of OUL Theatre’s upcoming production for just $5. Theatre Director Victor Jones is offering the opening night discounted ticket price for the first time during the production of “The Elephant Man.”

“We want to make sure our performances are seen by everyone who’d like to attend,” said Jones. “We don’t want ticket price to be an obstacle.”

The $5 price is for one night only on Wednesday, October 15th at 7:30 p.m. The show runs from October 15 – October 19. The drama by Bernard Pomerance is based on the life of Joseph Merrick.  Merrick was a deformed young man with rare skin and bone diseases. He became the star attraction in traveling side shows.

“It’s about acceptance. People want to be accepted for who they are. It’s such a beautiful story about a man who wants to be accepted and is accepted by high society.  It is a story of people embracing this unique man,” said Jones.

Jones said he has wanted to do this play since he saw the movie version several years ago.  The OUL Theatre production will have music and ballet dancers to present the story in an artistic nature.

“There is a cellist that sits on stage playing music the entire time,” said Jones. “We have a beautiful ballet dancer that interprets all of the dialogue at the same time the play is going on. It is really beautiful.”
