Lancaster – The Ohio University Lancaster Women’s Basketball team won their second consecutive state title on Sunday. The women defeated Ohio State University Newark by a score of 72 to 60 to become state champions. The game was played in OUL’s Brasee Hall gym.

“It was great to play the state championship game on our home court,” said OUL Athletic Director and Women’s Basketball Head Coach Jeff Whitehead. “We had a lot of people in the stands supporting us and getting this victory at home was an amazing feeling.”

Morgan Kirkbride had 25 points, Abbie Linton had 16 points and Paige Stout had 12. Stout was the tournament MVP.

The Lady Cougars were the number one seed going in to the Ohio Regional Campus Conference tournament. In February, The OUL women’s team clinched their fifth straight Ohio Regional Campus Conference East Division title by defeating OSU Mansfield 63-43.

The Ohio University Lancaster’s men’s basketball team also had a great season clinching their second straight Ohio Regional Campus Conference East Division title in February.  They lost a tough game in overtime in the ORCC tournament on Saturday by a score of 92 to 84 to eventual State Champions Miami Middletown.

Korey Arledge had 31 points and Jordan Barr scored 23 points.

“Both teams had fantastic seasons,” said Whitehead. “I couldn’t be more proud of the effort they put in and all they accomplished this year.”
