October 01, 2019 : Filling Out Federal Financial Aid Form is Key Step in College Process

Figuring out how to pay for college can drain the fun from the experience with tuition prices climbing higher each year. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form is available to give prospective students the ability to qualify for loans and grants.

To apply for federal student aid, grants, work-study, and loans, students need to complete the FAFSA form. Completing and submitting the FAFSA form is free and it gives students access to the largest source of financial aid to pay for college.

“The FAFSA is a requirement to apply for all federal financial aid and many state programs,” said Joshua Moore, Enrollment Manager for Ohio University Lancaster, “Most local scholarship applications require that the FAFSA is completed as well.  So, this is an opportunity to get help with financing your college education.”

In addition, many states and colleges use your FAFSA information to determine your eligibility for state and school aid, and some private financial aid providers may use your FAFSA information to determine whether you qualify for their aid.

The FAFSA is the key to funding a college education and helping families to overcome financial barriers that otherwise prevent students from attending the institution they want to.  Studies show that a student is 50% more likely to attend college when they complete the FAFSA.

“The FAFSA can sometimes be confusing and overwhelming, students can contact the financial aid office at most colleges to alleviate any confusion with the FAFSA form and help students get the financial aid they need to pursue their education,” said Moore.

Students may begin filing on October 1 and can find this year’s FAFSA form online at fafsa.gov
