June 10, 2015 : OUL Awards 203 Scholarships
- Cheri Russo
Communications and Marketing Manager

Lancaster – Ohio University Lancaster | Pickerington awarded 203 scholarships for the 2015 – 2016 academic year. OUL has many scholarship opportunities. Scholarships can help a student meet expenses connected with a college education. Some scholarships are for tuition only while others may help with tuition and — once the tuition commitment has been met — assist students with books and supplies.

“72% of OUL’s students receive financial aid and 25% are considered below poverty level,” said OUL Enrollment Manager Pat Fox. “Scholarships are crucial in helping students be able to complete their degree without going into debt.”

Scholarships were awarded throughout central Ohio.  In Lancaster, 71 students got OUL scholarships. One OUL scholarship is for Lancaster High School students only. There were also 17 scholarships awarded to students in Pickerington, 10 to students in Baltimore and 10 to students in Logan.

New freshmen students are automatically considered for scholarships when they complete the Ohio University Admissions Application by the March 1 scholarship deadline.  All upper-class students can apply for scholarships at Ohio University (Athens or Lancaster campuses) through the Online Scholarship Application found by going to the OU Financial Aid Office Homepage, www.ohio.edu/financialaid.

“Our tuition is affordable at about $5,000 a year,” said Fox.  “In some cases, a scholarship can pay that entire amount and help take that burden off of the student and his/her family.”

Ohio University Lancaster | Pickerington’s Endowed Scholarship Spending Allocation was $183, 632.  That is the largest amount among Ohio University’s regional campuses.

“Our community has been very generous in supporting the higher education aspirations of OUL students,” said Fox. ‘Without the scholarships created by community members and area businesses, this wouldn’t be possible.  It’s a wonderful thing to be a part of.”
