December 08, 2014 : PTK Adopt-A-Family Drive Underway at OUL

Lancaster – Ohio University Lancaster’s student organization Phi Theta Kappa is in the process of collecting items for the annual Adopt-A-Family Drive.  Each year the group collects items for the family of an Ohio University Lancaster student in need.
“Our campus gets excited about helping one of our own students,” said PTK member Shannon Rine.  “The Adopt-a-Family drive has special meaning because we know how hard our students work to realize their academic goals. Helping them make Christmas special for their kids is a small way we can help out.”
Donation boxes are located in the Brasee Hall North Lobby and by the Information Desk on the 3rd floor.  This year items are being collected for a two-year old girl and an 11-year old girl.  The two-year old wants items like coloring books and anything from the movie “Frozen,” while the 11-year old is asking for books, clothing and craft items.
“In addition to the items collected for the children, OUL faculty and staff donate money and gift cards to give to the family,” said Rine.  “Our entire campus gets involved in this project.”
After the items are collected, PTK members get together to wrap the gifts before they are taken to the family.  The deadline for donations is December 10.
Phi Theta Kappa is a national honor society on campus.  The group has also organized an Easter egg hunt for Big Brothers Big Sisters for the last several years.
