May 26, 2015 : Wagner Theatre Improvement Campaign Reaches $180,000 Mark
- Cheri Russo
Communications and Marketing Manager
Lancaster – The Lancaster and Fairfield County communities have come out in a big way to support Ohio University Lancaster’s Wagner Theatre. With a little more than a month left in the Wagner Theatre Improvement Campaign, about $180,000 has been raised.
“It’s a very exciting time for arts and culture at Ohio University Lancaster,” said Development Director Mandi Custer. “Our community has really shown its support to make improvements to the theatre.  The renovations that will be done will make the experience of seeing plays, concerts and speakers at OUL infinitely better.”
The fundraising goal for this campaign is $250,000 and with those funds the Campus will add acoustic panels, a new sound board and speakers.  Additionally, the project includes new lighting, and aesthetic improvements such as fresh paint colors and a new curtain.  It didn’t take long for the Fairfield County community to respond to this effort.
The Wagner Theatre Improvement Campaign was also recently awarded a $5,000 grant from the South Central Power Foundation.  In addition to the support of companies such as South Central Power, Fairfield National Bank, Standing Stone Bank and Fairfield Federal, OUL has received contributions from community partners such as Dean and Cathie DeRolph with Lancaster Arts and Civic Club and the members of the Lancaster Men’s Chorus.
More than 40 years ago, the Lancaster Men’s Chorus started performing its annual “Ham & Eggs Show” on the Wagner Theatre stage.  Now, The Chorus is giving back to the venue that has supported them for nearly four decades.  The Lancaster Men’s Chorus recently donated $1,000 from its general fund to the Wagner Theatre Improvement Campaign.  During the May, 2015 performance of “Ham & Eggs” in the Wagner Theatre, the Lancaster Men’s Chorus asked audience members to show their support by contributing to the fundraising effort.  The Chorus was able to collect about $1,000 in collection boxes at the event. The Chorus had already contributed $1,000 from its organization.  This makes the total gift $2,000.
