- Cheri Russo
Communications and Marketing Manager
Lancaster – Ohio University Lancaster | Pickerington Dean Dr. Jim Smith has been speaking to civic and business organizations in the area recently updating them on the continued growth of the regional campus.  Smith has addressed the Lancaster Kiwanis Club, the Lancaster-Sherman Rotary and the Reynoldsburg, Pickerington Rotary Club.
Bachelor’s degrees are an area where we are growing,” said Smith.  The Lancaster Campus recently announced that two new bachelor’s degrees will be offered locally starting this fall.  Students will now be able to complete four-year degrees in Biology and Social Work on campus.
The campus currently serves about 2600 students.  29 percent of the students are non-traditional, meaning they are over the age of 25. 56 percent are females, and 13 percent are first generation college students.
Smith said the campus is working with economic development leaders in the area to offer degrees that meet the community needs.  One result that came from that work was the new associate degree in Engineering Technology
“We changed our Industrial Maintenance Technology degree to Engineering Technology to meet the high-tech needs of the manufacturing industry,” said Smith.
Eleven Bachelor’s Degrees and 14 Associate’s Degrees are now offered on the Lancaster Campus.  Enrollment on campus has grown by nearly 1,000 students since 2007.
“One can attend Ohio University Lancaster | Pickerington for about $5,000 a year,” said Smith. “That is a tremendous value.”
