April 01, 2015 : AUDIO: Spring Fest 2015 Kicks Off April 6

Communications and Marketing Manager

Lancaster – Spring Fest 2015 gets underway next week. This year’s theme is “Spring into Action.” Many of the events during the week of activities will raise funds for organizations throughout the community. The week was organized by the Communication Studies Event Planning class.
“We’re trying to make sure there is a social benefit for everything we do,” said COMS 4050 Student Tommy Robinson. “It’s not just to have fun, but to have fun with a cause.”
All events are free, but that donations will be solicited for the various organizations.
“It’s the end of the year, and everyone is really stressed out,” said COMS 4050 Student Michelle Fox. “It’s right before finals. It’s a way to let loose and have fun.  There are events for students and students with families.  It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Spring Fest 2015 Master CalendarThere are about 15 events scheduled throughout the week, and many of the student organizations on campus are sponsoring specific events. Students can get a massage, learn about stress management, go to a cookout, attend an ice cream social, go bowling or play laser tag.
“It’s a really great opportunity to start getting involved and meet people who are part of student organizations,” said COMS 4050 Student Jesse Crook. “OUL is a commuter campus, and sometimes people don’t stay after class and get to know others on campus.  We hope this will be a good opportunity to do that.”
Crook and his classmates say planning a week full of events and activities was stressful. However, they have learned a great deal about all the details that go into planning something so massive.
“The things we are learning in this class are going to pay off so much in the future,” said Crook. “It’s a very challenging class. This class has huge amounts of benefit in the future.”
Spring Fest 2015 has its own Twitter and Instagram accounts.  Organizers encourage students, faculty and staff to follow those social media pages for Spring Fest updates.
