Lancaster – Ohio University Lancaster | Pickerington Communication Studies Assistant Professor Dr. Nicole Blau will be getting one of the Pickerington Education Association's Friend of Education Awards at a banquet next month. Blau was selected for the award for work she and her students have done at Diley Middle School.
"I have been working with Diley Middle School for about two years now on anti-bullying campaigns," said Blau. "Specifically, my students and I have helped organize and carry out the first and second annual "Dial Up Awareness Day" at Diley Middle School, which is an effort to raise awareness on the topic of bullying."
This is the seventh year that the Pickerington Education Association has given the Friend of Education awards.
"I have done and continue to do extensive research within the school in an effort to pinpoint specific problems linked to bullying, including who is most likely to be bullied, how students handle bullying, and how bullying affects learning," said Blau. "Along with one of my graduate students this semester, we have collected data and are getting ready to analyze the data to present the results to leaders at Diley Middle."
The PEA Friend of Education award is given to a person or group of people that genuinely help to improve the schools.
"The work that Dr. Blau is doing on bullying in the community is helping the students at Diley Middle School and other schools in the region fight bullying," said Associate Dean Dr. Paul Abraham. "It's work that can be life changing for children. Dr. Blau is very deserving of this award."
The PEA Friend of Education dinner will be held on May 2.
