Pickerington – There is a new student organization at the Ohio University Pickerington Center, and its mission is to grow new things in the ground while growing student involvement at the center. It’s the Pickerington Center’s first student organization.
“I just had an idea to start the Greenhouse Club, and it just kind of blossomed,” said Student Ayden Wilson. “Right now, there are not any student clubs at the Center. No one hangs around after school. So, it would fun to get people together. “
The group only has three members right now, but Wilson believes it will grow right along with the plants the group cares for.
“I think it’s a good experience, and it’s inspiring. Once you see plants start to sprout, it’s exciting,” said Wilson. “I think that if we get enough people to join who bring their own materials, we could grow a lot of plants.”
The group’s first activity was held on Earth Day in April. Wilson helped plant a tree in the front lawn at the Pickerington Center.
“It’s a tiny little tree but it’s going to be pretty,” said Wilson. “It’s a Japanese Maple.”
The group plans to eventually grow vegetables and donate them to a local food shelter to help those in need.
