Lancaster – The Ohio University Lancaster Campus is now fitTOGETHER certified. The announcement was made by the fitTOGETHER Business Subcommittee last week.
The goal of fitTOGETHER is to promote healthier eating habits and exercise to members of the community. Businesses who want to become fitTOGETHER certified need to show the committee that they are promoting healthy lifestyles in the work environment.
"The campus is excited to have reached the goal of becoming fitTOGETHER certified," said Lancaster Campus Dean Jim Smith."We plan to continue to encourage healthier lifestyles for our employees in new and unique ways."
The Lancaster Campus is considered "one-star certified." If it continues to promote exercise and healthier eating habits to its employees, it could achieve a higher certification status.
"The mission of the fitTOGETHER Business Subcommittee is to recognize organizations committed to champion the health and wellness of its employees, and we have seen measurable results in the Lancaster business community towards the achievement of that goal," said fitTOGETHER Business Subcommittee Chairperson Kathleen Meyer in a congratulatory letter to the campus. "Please use this award as a tool to demonstrate Ohio University Lancaster's commitment to the health and wellness of your employees. We believe that this award can be a real motivator for current staff and become a means to attract future staff."
During the spring semester, a "Walk to Athens" competition was held on the Lancaster Campus and employees were encouraged to log their walking activities. The first five employees to reach 50 miles, the distance between Lancaster and Athens, were considered the winners and received prizes.Employees are also being encouraged to use the exercise facility on the Lancaster Campus or walk the bike path during their lunch hour.Healthy tips and recipes are also being published in the weekly Ohio University Lancaster | Pickerington Newsletter.
